Ten-piece Russian . 875 Silver Tea and Coffee Service, St. Petersburg, c. 1860/61, marked with maker's mark "NP" surmounted by the Imperial Warrant and "PK" for Nicholls and Plinke, each with an engraved monogram below an Imperial crown, comprising a kettle-on-stand with burner, coffeepot, teapot, hot milk pot, creamer, sugar, waste bowl, cake basket, frosted glass biscuit jar, and tongs, kettle-on-stand ht. 15 5/8 in., approx. 231.6 troy oz. (not including biscuit jar). Provenance: Sotheby's New York, Russian Works of Art, December 1985, Lot 50. N.B. The Imperial monogram "M.M" is probably for Grand Duke Michael Michalaevich, grandson of Nickolas I. Estimate $6,000-12,000 Light surface wear. Waste bowl with two small professional dent repairs to either side (unobtrusive overall, with only slight surface variation to interior). Kettle with loss to heat stop under finial and each heat stop to handle with breaks (handle separate from body.) Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
