Mahogany Veneer Inlaid Knife Box, England, early 19th century, the canted top with large oval shell-inlaid reserve with serpentine front, on a conforming box inlaid with striped panels, contrasting banding, and sawtooth lower edge, the interior fitted and inlaid with contrasting stringing, the inside of the top inlaid with a compass star, old surface, ht. 15 1/2, wd. 9 1/2, dp. 12 in. Estimate $400-600 veneer cracks to lid, small losses of inlay throughout, especially along lower edge. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
