William Matthew Prior (Massachusetts/Maine, 1806-1873) Portrait of a Gentleman Unsigned. Oil on canvas, the man wearing a Masonic pin and with a ship over his shoulder, 27 1/2 x 22 in., in a bird's-eye maple frame. Condition: Canvas mounted to Masonite, inpainting including in lines to his face. Estimate $1,000-1,500 In natural light the restoration is barely noticeable. There is additional spotty touch up in several non essential parts of the portrait. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
