Chippendale Carved and Inlaid Mahogany Reverse-serpentine Chest of Drawers, Massachusetts, c. 1770-80, the shaped top with crossbanded and string-inlaid edge, on a conformingly shaped case of scratchbeaded drawers on claw-and-ball feet, replaced brasses, refinished, ht. 33 1/2, wd. 35, dp. 19 1/2 in. Estimate $2,000-3,000 The chest is of fine quality. The top has three shrinkage cracks which are not very noticeable. A small piece of veneer and two inlaid and veneer blocks at the back left and right top edge need to be reglued. There are two wooden plugs towards the back of the top which are additions. The piece is overall in excellent condition. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
