American, probably Southern, early 19th century. A fine Cherry lift top chest of drawers also known as a mule chest having a rectangular hinged molded top opening to a storage cavity with pine till or candle drawer to upper left and inset with locking mechanism, the exterior with paneled facade above two drawers, the upper drawer with individual locking mechanism, the sides having triple graduating panels, raised on turned legs. Approximate height 46", width 38", depth 16.5".
