Dutch School, 17th Century Style Two Winter Landscapes with Figures on the Ice: Daylight and Dusk. Both unsigned. Both oil on panel, sizes to 13 x 18 3/4 in., unframed. Condition: Daylight with retouch along a thin horizontal crack across the entire panel u.c. stabilized with cradles on the reverse, a second horizontal hairline crack to u.r., minor wear to edges of the panel, fine craquelure; Dusk with varnish discoloration, area of craquelure with lifting l.c., areas of fine alligatoring in the darkest pigments. Provenance: The estate of George Way, Staten Island, New York. N.B. The brushwork and under drawing of Daylight suggest it is later 19th century or even 20th century. Estimate $300-500 The smaller of the two works measures 12 5/8 x 16 inches. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
