Higginson, London, 17th/18th century, the marquetry sarcophagus top with blind fret above the square glazed door with engaged columns over the 12-in. composite brass roman numeral dial signed along the lower edge of the silvered chapter ring "J****Higginson/London, half-quarter, quarter, and half-hour markings inside the chapter ring, the matted center with ringed winding and seconds holes, recessed date dial and seconds chapter in arabic numerals, pierced blued-steel hands, cast brass spandrels and herringbone engraving along the edge, the rectangular waist door with brass ringed lenticle and elaborate marquetry throughout to the base resting on a double-stage base molding, eight-day, brass, five-ringed movement with recoil escapement, count-wheel strike, all powered by two iron weights and regulated by a seconds beating pendulum, ht. 100 in. Estimate $4,000-6,000 some half round edge molding off but present, central hood plinth and finial off but present, hood and case have shrunk and are not sitting straight/flush/correct, base marquetry spliting, one piece of dial matt off but present, upper hinge of hood door needs repair.
