Two-day Marine Chronometer by French, c. 1845, brass-bound mahogany box with double-hinged lid, bone boss reading "Examined and Sold by John Poole/57 Frechurch Street/London," engraved silvered dial reading "French Royal Exchange London No. 8828," up/down indicator, and running seconds, housed in its lacquered brass gimbaled bowl with integral winding key on underside, two-day chain fusee movement with helical hairspring, split bimetallic balance, and spring detent escapement, and back plate engraved "French Royal Exchange London No. 8828," lid with label reading in part "G.H. & C. Cowland Jewellers, Silversmiths Chronometer, Watch & Clock Manufacturers," box wd. 6 1/2 in. Estimate $1,500-2,000 overall very nice condition, old finish, original lacquered bowl and dial, fusee recently overhauled and good working order.
