Three Embroidered Fan Cases, China, late 19th century, two needlepoint, one decorated with auspicious characters, the other with bamboo, and one with a rooster depicted in satin stitch on a yellow silk ground, lg. to 12 1/4 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig to the present owner. Estimate $300-500 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
