Group of Embroidered Silk Purses and Tassels, China, late 19th/early 20th century, two belt pouches, a gift plaque, a spade-shaped purse decorated with a dragon in metallic thread, a kidney-shaped purse with a needlepoint bat motif, two pairs of macrame tassels, and a single tassel, purse size to 3 3/4 x 3, tassel lg. to 12 1/2 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig to the present owner.
