John Ferguson Weir (American, 1841-1926) The Reverend John William French Initialed "J. F.W." l.r., inscribed in a later hand "Rev. J.W. French at West Point" on the stretcher, inscribed indistinctly "The Reverend John W. French/chaplain at West Point/John F. Weir/..." on the reverse, identified and titled with inventory number "35590" on a label from Vose Galleries, Boston, affixed to the backing board. Oil on canvas, 21 1/4 x 19 7/8 in. (54.0 x 50.5 cm), framed. Condition: Three small patches to the reverse, extremely minor retouch. Provenance: By descent in the family of the artist.
