William Trost Richards (American, 1833-1905) Coastal Marine in a Mountainous Landscape Signed "W. T. Richards" in ink l.l., inscribed indistinctly in pencil beneath the signature, titled and identified on a typed sheet or inventory page from Stack & Stack, location unspecified, affixed to the frame backing. Watercolor and gouache on paper, 9 3/4 x 13 7/8 in. (24.8 x 35.2 cm), framed. Condition: Toning, fading, remnants of an old mount affixed to the corners of the reverse. N.B. The paper from Stack & Stack provides the provenance as "Katherine Smith, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Miami, Florida." Estimate $3,000-6,000 Hinged to a support sheet that shows considerable foxing.
