Hanging Scroll Depicting a Moonlit Riverscape, Korea, 18th/19th century, after Yi Geon (1614-1662), with figures in a boat and rocky peaks in distance, inscribed with the last line of a poem in Qiuxing (Joys of Autumn) by a Tang poet Du Fu, with various seals including one reading "Chusa shihwa," an inscription about Yi on reverse, possibly excerpted from Geunyeok seohwajing (Dictionary of Korean Calligraphers and Painters) by O Sechang, ink and light color on paper, painting 13 5/8 x 17 7/8 in. Provenance: Acquired in Seoul, Korea, in the 1960s by an American businessman who returned to the U.S. in 1968; purchased by the present owner in 2003. Estimate $1,200-1,500 numerous creases, retouched tears, surface wears, some spotty stain. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
