Shinji Yonehara Sky Line Art Glass Sculpture, Japan, c. 2010, blown glass sphere, signed, ht. 8 1/2, approx. dia. 9 1/2 in. Note: Shinji Yonehara compares his glass spheres to a canvas to which he affixes glass pieces in order to create an uneven - abstract - color surface. He ascertains the expressive potential of the molten glass as it is cooling, instant to instant, and works to give form to it, so that the flow of colors is inseparable from the fluidity of the hot glass itself. Yoriko Mizuta, former Curator of Glass at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, compares his approach to that of Jackson Pollack, who made use of the fluidity of his paints to capture instantaneous bodily movement in his action painting, bringing his subconscious to view much in the way that the abstractions of Yonehara evoke burning flames, mountain ranges or ocean currents. A native of Japan, Yonehara works out of his studio in Hokkaido. Estimate $100-300 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
