Tiffany Studios Gold Favrile Tulip-form Vase, New York, early 20th century, everted rim with scalloped edge, glass body tapers to bronze dore stem set on domed glass base, incised mark "L. C.T. W6299," polished pontil, ht. 13 in. Provenance: The estate of Lois Smiley. Smiley was born in New York, where she eventually studied with Rufino Tamayo and Vaclav Vytlacil. Her artwork followed in their traditions of abstract expressionism with a focus on figural and landscape painting. She taught drawing and painting in New York and later in the Boston area. Over her lifetime, Smiley amassed a collection of important modern decorative arts including Tiffany glass, Wegner, and Nakashima furniture. Estimate $500-700 No visible damage or repairs.
