Tiffany Studios Gold Favrile Center Bowl, New York, early 20th century, wide rolled rim, center decorated with etched green water lily pads, removable two-tiered cobalt blue flower frog, incised "2612M L. C. Tiffany Favrile 1798," dia. 15, with frog ht. 5 in. Provenance: The estate of Lois Smiley. Smiley was born in New York, where she eventually studied with Rufino Tamayo and Vaclav Vytlacil. Her artwork followed in their traditions of abstract expressionism with a focus on figural and landscape painting. She taught drawing and painting in New York and later in the Boston area. Over her lifetime, Smiley amassed a collection of important modern decorative arts including Tiffany glass, Wegner, and Nakashima furniture. Estimate $500-700 the frog is with two loops broken, interior rim of bowl where frog sits is with a ground down section and small rim flake.
