Red-painted Settle Bench, probably Massachusetts, 18th century, the straight back with a half-round crest, above a plank seat and shaped arms with turned supports, and shaped skirt, (restored), ht. 57, lg. 72 in. Provenance: Harlow Family, Plymouth, Massachusetts, and descended in the Vermont branch through "Stub" Whitney (Winnifred Harding); Roger Bacon; Lillian Cogan; Katherine Prentis Murphy; acquired by the consignors at the Katherine Prentis Murphy Collection, Skinner, September 24, 1983. Estimate $3,000-5,000 arms added under the direction of Katherine Prentiss Murphy after much study, front leg repaired. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
