Japanese, probably Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). Monumental pair of Imari porcelain covered vases, both lids with shaped finials decorated with intricate patterns of peony flowers, prunus and Chrysanthemums, the baluster body with exterior figural scenes, predominantly women, in multiple garden settings amidst rockwork with butterflies and flowering prunus, peony and chrysanthemums . The whole decorated in dark blue underglaze with gold, red and orange-red overglaze on a white ground. Both vases on custom wood stands. Height on stand 47", height without stand 36", width 20", depth 16".
