Julia Bracken Wendt (American, 1870-1942) Patinated Bronze Plaque of the Four Seasons, California, early 20th century, round plaque depicting a classically robed female and partly nude male figure, the sun on the horizon, all encircled by text: "Hiems, Ver, Aestas, Atumn," dia. 14 in. Note: To escape a difficult childhood, Wendt ran away from home, finding work as a servant in Chicago. Recognizing her talents, her employer enrolled her in the Art Institute of Chicago to study with Lorado Taft. She moved to California in 1906 and taught at the Otis Art Institute. She was awarded the gold medal for sculpture at the 1915 San Diego Exposition. Estimate $700-900 No visible damage or repairs. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
