Maude Milner and Sarah Tutt Marblehead Pottery Vase, Massachusetts, c. 1905, cylindrical form in gray matte glaze with stylized leaves and stems, impressed Marblehead stamp, incised artists' cipher, ht. 7 in. Note: Maude Milner was reportedly born in 1870 or 1871 in England. She came to the United States in 1873. She studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School. She was a drawing instructor in North Andover, MA. from 1900 until 1905. She began working at Marblehead Pottery about 1905. She was one of the principal decorators of Marblehead Pottery from about 1905 until 1911 when she moved to Connecticut. She was described by Dr. Hall in the 1909 Keramic Studio article as a designer who gave 'valuable service.' Two different signatures have been attributed to Maude Milner. Both signatures include an M and a T suggesting that her designs were executed by Sarah Tutt. Estimate $6,000-8,000 Small flakes on bottom probably in the making.
