Provenance: Acquired from Peter Joseph Gallery, New York. Note: Richard Newman studied with Wendell Castle and Jere Osgood at The School of the American Craftsman at RIT in the mid-1960s. After graduating from RIT Newman began a 40-year career as one of America's preeminent craftsmen. When Bebe and Warren Johnson of Pritam and Eames wrote their book Speaking of Furniture, Conversations with 14 American Masters, it was Newman's work that was chosen for the cover illustration. Richard makes little furniture any longer--instead he follows his passion for making banjos and teaching swing dancing.
