Margot de Taxco Enameled Silver Snake Necklace/Belt, Mexico, 1950s, articulated snake in lavender and pink enamels, made in two sections as a necklace, lg. 25 1/2, with extension for use as a belt, lg. to 34 in., stamped "Margot de Taxco," production number 354(?), and eagle mark 16. Note: Margot van Voorhies Carr (c. 1915-1985) left behind a difficult life in America and emigrated to Mexico in the late 1930s. After her marriage into the Los Castillo silversmith family failed, she set up her own workshop producing designs reflecting her passion for Asian as well as Mexican art. Her workers were both men and atypically, women, who were charged with executing the detailed enameling which is her hallmark. She remained in business until the early 1970s.
