First edition, folio, illustrated with twenty-nine maps, the first twenty-four are on double pages hand-colored, and thrown out on guards, the final five are single-paged and chromolithographs, they detail city centers of Quebec, Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cincinnati, Louisville, New Orleans, and San Francisco; bound in publisher's textured cloth boards, lettered in gilt, recently resewn and rebacked in goatskin (marginal paper repairs to preliminaries), 14 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. This striking Atlas depicts the continental U.S., showing free and slave-holding states, two maps of Canada, each of the states by region, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, the New England states, Atlantic coastal states, southern, Midwest, and far west, including Texas, California, along with the Territories of Minnesota, Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, Kansas, Utah, New Mexico, and Indian Territory.
