(28.0 x 35.5 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure. N.B. The still life may be an homage to Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th President of the United States, who hailed from Meurer's home state of Ohio. His name appears on the envelope, the newspaper clipping relates a story about him, and he was known to enjoy a cigar. Hayes also was in favor of gold-backed currency, which may have inspired the inclusion of the ten dollar bill. Estimate $3,000-5,000 The work might benefit from a gentle cleaning.
