Three Wise Men Creche Figures, probably Italy, early 19th century, carved polychrome wood and fabrics, approx. ht. 9 1/2 in. Note: Christmas creche scenes (presepi) were made popular in southern Italy in the late 18th century by King Carlo of Naples. Estimate $500-700 Some deterioration of fabrics, minor damage to Balthazar's left hand. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
