Staffordshire Creamware Bear-baiting Jug and Cover, England, c. 1770, modeled as a seated bear with muzzled snout, the body supporting a dog-form spout to his chest, allover translucent brown glaze, ht. 9 in. Estimate $800-1,200 Cover: Slight chips surrounding rim. Jug: Neck with chips replaced and associated hairline, and an additional small rim chip; slight glaze roughness and flake at spout lips. Minor glaze flakes to paws. 1/4" patch of glaze missing to one side of the handle. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
