First edition, inscribed and signed by Carthailhac on publisher's printed paper wrappers to Austrian doctor, anthropologist, explorer, archaeologist and ethnographer Felix von Luschan (1854-1924), the author has also changed the publication date on the outer wrapper and title page to 1909, presumably the date at which the inscription was made, illustrated with color plates, glassine overlays, black-and-white photograph plates, and other images; ex libris the American Museum of Natural History, bound in half cloth and marbled paper boards, 13 3/4 x 10 1/2 in. Cartailhac and Breuil made careful study of European cave paintings at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. Estimate $150-250 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
