Henry Turney McKnight Sr. (American, 1913-1972) Landscape of Woodstock. Unsigned, identified on an exhibition label from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (see below). Oil on canvasboard, 12 x 16 in., in a hand-carved period frame. Condition: Surface grime. Exhibitions: Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 16th Annual Exhibition, Twin Cities Artists, 1930, as Object No. 917. N.B. Henry Turner McKnight Sr., who graduated from Saint Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire, in 1932 and earned his Bachelor of Arts at Yale in 1936, would have painted this landscape as a teenager. The exhibition label lists his residence as 2200 Park Avenue (Minneapolis). He went on to become a Trustee of the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts, the founding body of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. He enjoyed a successful business career and also served in the Minnesota State Senate. Estimate $200-400 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
