Quilted Cotton and Wool Mahdist Tunic, Jibbah, Sudan, c. 1880s, the white tunic decorated with colored patches of material was adopted by Sudanese Mahdist forces in the 1880s, the patches sewn on to the garment were reputed to represent poverty and humility, (minor damage), lg. 37, wd. 52 in.
