British Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket Prize Rifle, c. 1860, .577 caliber, walnut stock with checkered wrist and forestock, with a silver plaque on the right side of the butt engraved "PRIZE FOR SECOND GREATEST NUMBER OF POINTS/PRESENTED BY/MR. EDWARD LANDER/TO THE 14TH SHROPSHIRE RIFLE VOLUNTEERS/OCTOBER 3RD 1860/Won by Lieutenant Jones" with foliate designs, a small silver oval escutcheon under the butt below the trigger guard, blued-steel fittings with a brass buttplate and nose cap, lock marked "HOLLIS & SHEATH," with a nipple protector and chain, barrel marked with proofs on the left side, barrel lg. 39, overall lg. 55 1/4 in. Estimate $2,500-3,500 Stock has a few very small dings and nicks, strong checkering, bands retain all of their original blue, the barrel is a blue/plum color, the lock functions properly, and the bore is sharp, clean, and bright.
