Alabama First National Flag, c. 1861, two red wool bunting stripes with one white wool twill-woven center stripe, white twill-woven bound edge, blue canton with six white cotton stars on the obverse, and one large white cotton star with embroidery on the reverse canton, and a white till-woven hoist with four tie-holes, marked on the bottom of the hoist "5TH ALA REGT" in faded black ink, and a light stamp at the top of the hoist marked "PROPERTY OF/1888/GAR-SNY," ht. 21, lg. 35 in. Provenance: Purchased from a collection in Long Island, New York, in the 1980s. Estimate $3,000-5,000 Some loss on the bunting from use but in overall fair to good condition.
