Model 1840 Flintlock Musket and Sling, c. 1840, .70 bore, walnut stock with an "8" stamped in front of the trigger guard, steel fittings, with a "52" stamped on the buttplate tang and lower barrel band, lock (original flint) marked with an eagle and "US" in front of the cock, marked on the tail "SPRING/FIELD/1840," breech marked with Pomeroy "U.S./JCB/P" barrel markings, the barrel tang dated "1843," the brown leather sling with a brass hook marked "E.A. CROSSMAN & CO/NEWARK/N.J.," barrel lg. 42, overall lg. 58 in. Estimate $2,000-4,000 Stock has a few dings and nicks, steel is in very good condition with a small amount of scattered light spotting, the lock functions perfectly and is original flint and not a reconversion, in overall very good condition.
