Battlefield Recovered British Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket, c. 1863, .577 caliber, walnut stock carved on the left side near the side nails "J.W.C./SPANISH FORT/APL 8 65," brass buttplate and steel fittings, lock marked with a crown and "1863/TOWER," with proof marks on the left side of the breech, barrel lg. 39, overall lg. 55 in. Note: The Battle of Spanish Fort took place in Baldwin County, Alabama, from March 27 to April 8, 1865, as part of the Mobile Campaign of the Western Theatre of the Civil War. Estimate $2,000-4,000 Stock has some dings and nicks, and gun has overall wear from use, and the lock functions properly. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
