Mere Eglise Silk American Flag, c. 1944, faded red silk strips hand-sewn to the white with hand-applied stars on the canton, with a paper label in the frame: "STE Marie EglisE Normandy-June- 1944.," frame ht. 8 3/4, wd. 11 3/4 in. Provenance: Collection of Dean Johnson, Keedysville, Maryland. Note: Flag is described in Steve Slack's article "Saving the Stars and Stripes" in Country Home Magazine, (April, 2002), p. 20.
