Fall of Manila Sword and Scabbard, c. 19th century, brass hilt with "H.G. MARTIN./MANILA P.I./AUG.13, 1898" on one side of the grip, and "MAY, 1, 1898 KV." on the other, clipped point blade, and a leather scabbard with a brass throat and tip, blade lg. 15 1/2, overall lg. 21 in. Provenance: Rodney Hilton Brown Collection; The War Museum. Note: May 1, 1898, was the date of the first battle between American and Spanish forces at Manila Bay, and on August 13, 1898, Manila fell to American forces. Estimate $500-700 Hilt has some patination, blade has scattered pitting, staining, and patina, and the scabbard has some wear but in good condition.
