Black-painted Carved Cherry Linen Press, probably Chatham, Connecticut, late 18th century, the top section with molded cornice above paneled doors opening to shelves, sits on a lower section of four thumb-molded graduated drawers on ogee bracket feet, original brasses, old black paint over earlier red, (restoration to feet), ht. 81 3/4, lower case wd. 41 1/4, lower case dp. 20 in. Provenance: This linen press was found by Paul Koda (from whom the consignor purchased it) in the Gildersleeve section of Portland, Connecticut, known as Chatham) before the year 2000.
