Carved Oak and Pine Joined Chest, Windsor, Connecticut, area, late 17th century, the pine top opens to a well with compartment, the facade composed of a frieze of intersecting arches above four geometric carved panels bordered with shallow carving, the sides and back further paneled and carved, on stile feet, refinished, the top painted black, ht. 28 1/4, wd. 52, dp. 21 1/2 in. Provenance: Florene Maine. The property of Bill McKeever Estimate $4,000-6,000 top original but painted black; case with varnish surface; good height; bottom boards with old nails and some more recent nailing; lock cut out, with a resulting triangular patch above the keyhole.
