Chippendale Mahogany Block-front Slant-lid Desk, Massachusetts, c. 1760-80, the thumb-molded lid opens to a stepped interior of shell-carved prospect door flanked by shell-carved drawers, blocked drawers, and compartments all above three drawers, on a cockbeaded case of four graduated drawers, on claw-and-ball feet with shaped returns, original brass pulls, old refinish, ht. 44 1/4, case wd. 40, case dp. 20 1/2 in. Estimate $8,000-12,000 very good structural condition, with a minor shrinkage crack to a side, but with no major damage, repairs or restorations. Although it has been refinished, it has good color.
