Unusual W. & L.E. Gurley Mining Transit, Troy, New York, c. 1885, 5 1/2-in. engraved silvered dial marked as above, 3-in. radius arc, fitted with an auxiliary telescope and counterweight, A-standard, housed in its original fitted box with right-angle prism eyepiece, ht. 13 in. Note: According to Bill Skerritt, this instrument is signed "W-12-7-85/Denver Instrument Co./Jardine 10-2-44" internally. The "W" probably stands for Wm. S. Wood, who worked for Gurley as an instrument maker from 1879 until 1894. Provenance: William H. Skerritt. Estimate $700-900 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
