Hugo Harttmann Surveyor's Transit, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, second half 19th century, 11-in. scope with fine focusing, "A"-frame supports with single spirit level, 5 1/4-in. engraved silvered dial reading "Hugo Harttmann/Maker/Philadelphia," opposing verniers, spirit level, and four-screw adjustable base, housed in its original fitted walnut case. Note: Hugo Hartmann is listed as an instrument maker at 330 Noble St., Philadelphia, between 1853 and 1856. From 1857 to 1859 he is listed at 63 Dock St. Provenance: Richard Miller Collection.
