Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait (American, 1819-1905) Repose Signed "A. F. Tait" l.r., identified on a presentation plaque, titled, signed with artist's address "53 East 56th St/N.Y.," and inscribed "C. 91" in paint on the reverse. Oil on board, 13 3/4 x 22 in. (35.0 x 56.0 cm), framed. Condition: Varnish discoloration, areas of minor accretions and minute paint loss, craquelure. Estimate $1,500-2,500 Winsor & Newton prepared panel label affixed to the reverse. We were unable to specifically identify the work in Cadbury and Marsh's catalogue raisonné. Framed dimensions are 18 3/4 x 26 5/8 in. Frame with a label from J.H. Miller Co., Springfield, Mass., on the back. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
