Samuel W. Griggs (American, 1827-1898) Cows Watering at a Quiet Riverside Signed and dated "S.W. Griggs/78" l.r., with a label from A.A. Walker & Company, Artists' Colormen, Boston, affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas stretched with Boston tabs, 18 x 30 in. (46.0 x 76.3 cm), framed. Condition: Varnish discoloration, surface grime. Estimate $1,200-1,800 The address on the Walker & Company label is 594 Washington Street, and the establishment was at that address from 1877 to 1880. The Boston tabs at the upper corners have been lost. Framed dimensions are 24 1/4 x 36 1/4 inches. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
