Mary Brewster Hazelton (American, 1868-1953) Landscape with Birches Signed "MB Hazelton" l. l. Oil on canvas, 24 x 20 in. (61.0 x 50.8 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure, minor surface grime, small puncture with minor paint loss l.c. near stretcher. Estimate $1,000-1,500 Stretched with Boston tabs. Small tear (1/2 inch) located lower center at the edge of the stretcher. Small depression and grime buildup to u.c. near edge, possibly corresponding to a nail head beneath canvas. There is a very faint inscription in ink on the bottom stretcher bar that seems to be "08/..." The stretcher has paper remnants from an old backing of some sort. Also, there are tacks in the upper left corner of the stretcher that usually would indicate an old exhibition label, but no other evidence of any label remains. Framed dimensions are 26 1/2 x 22 1/2 x 1 inch. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
