European School, 19th Century Pendant Portraits of a Gentleman and Lady Unsigned, Lady inscribed indistinctly and dated "... 1846" on the stretcher. Each oil on canvas, 6 5/8 x 5 1/2 in. (17.0 x 14.0 cm), framed. Condition: Minor retouch, craquelure, varnish discoloration, minor paint losses. N.B. The woman is identified in the inscription, but only "Maria Anna...von .../1846/aetatis 26" can still be read clearly. She wears a decoration which may be from an Austrian order. Estimate $800-1,200 There is also an inscription the Gentleman's stretcher, but it is illegible. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
