Robert Cronin (American, b. 1936) Bound Bird. Signed "R. CRONIN" on the paper backing. Mixed media collage on board, 48 x 35 1/2 in., framed. Condition: Distressed surfaces in keeping with the artist's intent, curling and some surface losses to the edge of the paper and supporting canvas along the left inside edge of the "frame" which may have become more pronounced over time, the nails perforate the back of the work, backing paper is torn and stained. Estimate $20-200 Collage includes rusted nails, wire, and glass, as well as paper and oil paint. The birch bark "frame" is trompe l'oeil. The left edge of the frame opening, where the curling has been noted, does not have as many nails close to the edge to hold it down, as compared to the right hand edge of the opening.
