Rare Tissot Experimental Watch or "Astrolon" Wristwatch and a First Generation Swatch, c. 1980-83, plastic or Teflon case with silvered arabic numeral chapter ring with center seconds, mechanical wind Teflon and traditional brass gear layout, dia. 38.5; and a NOS black dial no. 483 Swatch, dia. 33 mm. Provenance: Collection of Bernhard W. Stoeber. Note: This is an experimental watch made by Tissot in cooperation with Hoechst of Germany in developing methods to make watch parts, including wheels, out of plastic/Teflon. This project led to the use of plastics for quarts clock movements but did not cause a shift in the making of wristwatch movements. Exception was the brake on Omega caliber 861 (now 1861). This watch, called Astrolon, was given to technical managers of Omega and Tissot during a seminar and visit to Tissot in 1980.
