Painting of Sita at Ravana's Palace from the Ramayana, India, Rajasthan, Mewar, 17th/18th century, ink, opaque color and gold on wasli, depicting scenes around the abduction of Sita by the ten-headed demon Ravana, with painted borders and an inscription in a reserve above, framed and glazed, sight size 9 7/8 x 15 7/8 in. Provenance: Purchased in the U.S. in 1972 and descended in the Steig family. Estimate $2,000-3,000 Not examined out of frame. Loss to upper left and lower left corners, paint/surface loss to upper right, water damage/stain lower right, other smaller areas of staining and paint and gilt loss.
