Charles Hovey Pepper (American, 1864-1950) Reflections at Sunset. Signed "Charles Hovey Pepper" l.l., identified on a label from Vose Galleries of Boston affixed to the frame backing paper. Gouache on paper/board, 21 x 14 1/2 in., framed. Condition: Water damage to frame backing along the bottom edge which does not appear to have impacted the gouache itself, not examined out of frame. Estimate $300-500 Also with a label from Commonwealth Print Conservation, Boston, affixed to the backing paper, indicating the work was archivally framed in February 1987. The water damage visible on the frame backing paper extends across the whole bottom edge and about 4 1/2 inches up from the bottom edge at the highest point. While no damage is visible to the gouache or the front mat, there is mold on the inside of the glass in the lower right corner. Please note that the frame was not opened during cataloging.
