Orson Byron Lowell (American, 1871-1956) A Difficult Decision. Signed "Orson Lowell" l.c., identified and dated "...1909" in an exhibition label affixed to the frame backing paper. Pen and ink on paper, sight size 18 x 23 in., framed. Condition: Sheet seamed between the woman and man on the right, also with a patch in the area of the woman's muff and skirt, soiling and staining especially along the left edge and u.l. quadrant., loss along the left edge. Provenance: The collection of Frederic and Jean Sharf, Massachusetts and Florida. N.B. The exhibition label affixed to the frame backing paper indicates that this drawing was probably published in LIFE magazine, but the exact date is not known. Estimate $400-600 The fact that the man at the right was pasted into the drawing later would account for the unusual placement of Lowell's signature. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact.
