Pair of Shell-carved Walnut Side Chairs, Philadelphia area, c. 1760-80, the serpentine beaded crests centering carved shells, above scrolled pierced splats and trapezoidal slip seats, all on shaped front rail centering shell drop pendant and joining frontal cabriole legs with shell-carved knees and claw-and-ball feet, ht. 41 1/4, seat ht. 18 in. Estimate $2,500-3,500 one crest broken out and reattached. one seat frame with repair. One seat frame marked I, the other II; one glueblock/corner brace replaced. Both splats with minor repair.
